During the sixties up to the seventies a research programme "Inventory of the fish populations in streams of Southern Moravia and the Českomoravská vrchovina Highland” was launched in the former Institute of Vertebrate Zoology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (now Institute of Systematic and Ecological Biology of the same). The goal of the study was to ascertain the densities in 97 stream sections in sixteen fish species in eleven different streams..
